Getting dental crowns in Portland Maine

dental crown 150x150 Getting dental crowns in Portland MaineLooking for dentists who offer dental crowns is not that difficult in the Portland area. There are many dentists and cosmetic dentists in the area. However, if you are looking for a cosmetic dentist, it’s important to find a cosmetic dentist that is experienced and will provide good results for you. Dental crowns are helpful for broken or cracked teeth, badly discolored teeth, defective teeth, and other teeth issues.

Reading dental reviews online is an excellent way to find out if a dentist has satisfied patients. You can read what others say about a dentist and his or her dental staff in these online reviews. For his qualifications, you can usually find those on the website of the dental practice you are considering.

Your first visit to your cosmetic dentist may include an examination and assessment of your problem tooth. Here, your dentist will examine you and check to see if there are any issues that need to be addressed when your dental crowns are done. He will look for decay and infection, and you will be advised if you need additional treatment such as root canal treatment, alteration of the gum level called crown lengthening, or placement of a post to reinforce a tooth that has had root canal treatment. The steps to complete dental crowns can include resolving these issues as part of the procedure or may require an additional visit.

On occasion, if a tooth has become so damaged and infected that the procedures to place a crown on it are too complicated or expensive, it may be better to consider removing the tooth and replacing it with an implant instead. This is a decision that can only be made in consultation with a dentist familiar with all the procedures and alternatives involved. You can be assured that your fully qualified cosmetic dentist can advise you as to your best choice.

When you and your cosmetic dentist agree on a plan for your dental crown(s), then it’s time to consider whether sedation dentistry will be part of your plan. If multiple procedures will require more time than you are comfortable sitting for, or if you have anxiety about the procedures, then sedation dentistry will get you through it painlessly and comfortably and make a long appointment seem short.

Once your damaged tooth has been reshaped, the cosmetic dentist will then make an impression of it using one of the highly accurate silicone or rubber impression materials. A model of the teeth receiving the dental crowns as well as the rest of the teeth, is made to make sure that the fit is perfect and your bite is normal.

You may leave the dental office with a temporary crown, while you wait for the permanent crown to arrive from the dental lab. Or if your crown is made with Cerec cad/cam technology you may actually leave the office that day with your permanent crown completed.

If you do need a temporary crown, you will need to return for a second visit to be fitted with the permanent crown. Your Portland Maine dentist will give you instructions on how to care for the temporary crown while you wait for the permanent one. Instructions include brushing and flossing, but not chewing sticky or very hard foods- so that your temporary crown does not become loose or fall off.

Benefits of dental crowns
Once your dental crowns are permanently in place, you can begin enjoying the many benefits. With dental crowns, you no longer have to hide your broken teeth when you smile, or worry about a weak tooth breaking. You can relax knowing that your teeth look great and should remain strong for many years to come. You get to enjoy your beautiful dazzling smile.
